Goathland Holiday Appartment

Brereton Holiday Lodge Annexe

Goathland Village, North Yorkshire, UK

Brereton Lodge Annexe is a first floor flat situated in the old servants quarters of this beautiful stone build arts and crafts era hour designed and build by W.H. Brierely of York in 1902 as a shooting lodge.

Goathland is one of the North Yorkshire Moors’ most beautiful and regularly visited villages, ideal for walking and for vistiting the coast (8 miles away) as well as the many interesting market towns and villages in and around the National Park. The wide commons are still grazed by moorland sheet and the village is surrounded by many becks and waterfalls.

The flat has its own separate entrance at the back of the house. From all rooms there are views of the surrounding commons and moorland. The house is situated in three acres of grounds, shared with ducks, hens and cats. It is set back from the road, is secluded, yet conveniently placed for village facilities - the shops, including post office, and bus stop being immediately opposite and steam railway 5 minutes walk down the road. There are three pubs within a short walking distance of the house, as well as an atmospheric small pub down in Beck Hole, a nice mile or so walk away.

The flat itself contains:

  • Entrance Hall/cloakroom on the ground floor, with ample space for storing shoes and outdoor clothes, as well as a desk for quiet work.

  • Sitting/lounge area is reached by stairs to the first floor. This room includes an open fireplace, comfortable sofa and chairs, for 4 -5 people.

  • Along the corridor the simple kitchen includes electric cooker, fridge and microwave, as well as storage cupboards and dining area – seats 4 comfortably, 5 if necessary.

  • The modern spacious bathroom includes bath with shower, wc and hand basin. Plenty of hot water available at all times.

  • Bedroom 1 – a small but ample room with two single beds and storage furniture

  • Bedroom 2 is a spacious room, looking out East to the orchard and meadow, with double bed and solid z bed that can be brought in for an extra person

  • Reading area – at the end of the corridor is a small library/reading area with selection of books and games for young and old – very popular on rainy days.

  • A cot and high chair are available on request

  • Other Information

Heating/hot water - provided by an oil fired system controlled by our visitors and able to be adjusted to suit their own needs

Fire safety - As well as a separate entrance, the flat has an additional fire escape door and is fully equipped with smoke alarms.

Parking - There is plenty of off road parking close to the house

Availability - The flat is available from 4 p.m on a Saturday until 10 a.m on the following Saturday - negotiable. During the peak summer period, from the beginning of May till the end of October, we prefer not to let for short breaks, but it is always worth asking, particularly at short notice.

Charges - These vary according to season. Please see price list. Prices include bed linen, heating and electricity, but please bring your own towels. If you want to use our coal or wood, there is a small charge of £2.00 per night.

Booking fee - A deposit of 25% is requested when you first book, the balance to follow a month before your arrival

Children and pets - Children and well-behaved pets are welcome. We do ask that dogs be kept on leads at all times outside, and that they are not allowed in the bedrooms. If you think your dog will get onto the sofa, bring an old blanket to protect it. And we also ask that you do not go out and leave dogs indoors. If you want to do this, don't go far and give us a way of contacting you - as dogs can behave in unpredictable ways when brought away on holiday. The flat is strictly NO SMOKING but if you are desperate, there is a sheltered seat outside!

PUBLIC TRANSPORT It is possible to reach Goathland by public transport if you plan your journey carefully. Aim to get to Malton station in time for one of the Coastliner buses towards Whitby. These buses are roughly every two hours and are worth using for the good views afforded from the top deck. The North York Moors Steam Railway has a station in Goathland, from where you can travel through stunning and varied scenery to Pickering, Grosmont and stations between. A more recent introduction has been Steam trains into Whitby from Grosmont station, from which visitors can also access the scenic (network rail) Esk Valley line which runs from Whitby to Middlesbrough.

STAY IN TOUCH Be warned that most mobile phones either do not work in the centre of Goathland or have a limited signal. But we can always pass on messages to visitors via our landline. There is a public payphone directly opposite the house, and if you need to check e mai urgently, we will do our best to give you access to a computer in the house. Nearest internet café and library - Whitby.

CHARGES From £220 to £450 per week, according to season, with a £10 charge for up to two dogs. The price for last minute or spring/winter short breaks is from £60 per night - £70 in high season. It may be possible to arrive earlier in the day and leave later than 10.00 a.m for these shorter breaks.
